Gorilla Trekking in Uganda

Trip Summary

This 8 day safari takes you to Rwanda to see the endangered mountain gorilla in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Itinerary

Day 1: Kampala

Upon arrival , you will be welcomed by a Vessel Africa guide who will greet you and then later transfer to your Hotel in Kampala for dinner and overnight stay, if you arrived early, you will first go for a Kampala city tour and later dinner and overnight at Kampala Serena Hotel.

 

Day 2: Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

After breakfast at your hotel in Kampala, you will be transferred to South Western Uganda where Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is Found and located. En route, you will have a stopover at the Equator at Kayabwe for an informative from the guides and also take photographs. Continue to Mbarara town for a lunch stopover. After lunch you will proceed with the journey to Bwindi and will take you through the rolling green hills and highlands of Uganda. Your road will then head even higher to where you can see the triangular peaks of the Virunga volcanoes of Rwanda and the Congo. We then drop down into a valley, to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home of the mountain gorilla. Dinner and overnight stay at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

 

Day 3: Mountain Gorilla Trekking

You will have breakfast and then transfer to the Ranger station for a briefing and guidance of the activity. After this, you will be accompanied by armed ranger guides in the forest to search for the Mountain Gorillas. You will pass through the forest, slashing at the undergrowth, parting thick creepers, to track gorillas. The time taken to track the Gorillas is unpredictable since it depends on their movements in search for food and shelter. However, it can take from 2 to 9 hours. Upon reaching the Gorillas, you will have one hour with them and this will enable you to sit down and watch them as they interact with each other, communicate and you are also free to take photographs and Videos. Return back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Nkuringo Gorilla Camp.

 

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the southern sector of the Park known as the Ishasha sector. The sector is commonly known for the rare tree climbing lions in Fig and acacia trees. From here you will be able to spot the tree climbing lions and also other animals in the area. Proceed with your journey to Mweya for a guided nature walk in the Maramagambo forest for primate watching and visits to the bat cave and the blue lake. Dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge.

 

Day 5: Queen Elizabeth National Park

After a fully served breakfast, you will set out for the morning game drive in the Kasenyi area. Here look out for animals such as the Lions, Buffaloes, Leopard, Elephants, Kobs, Antelopes, Spotted Hyena and the elusive giant forest hog. Return to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon, set out for the Launch cruise along the Kazinga Channel. This will give you the opportunity to view wildlife up close such as hippo’s huff and spray mere feet away from the boat, buffalo linger in the shallows. The shores of the channel are also home to an array of birds including pink backed pelicans, pied and malachite kingfishers, saddle billed stork and many others. After this wonderful afternoon, a slow drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Mweya Safari Lodge.

 

Day 6: Kyambura Gorge

After breakfast, you will go for Chimp trekking activity in the Kyambura Gorge. The primate walk will give you a breathtaking experience as you slope down the steep escarpment as well as enjoying other wildlife. After this, return back to your lodge for mid lunch and then transfer to Fort Portal. Upon arriving, you will visit the crater regions for scenic viewing. Proceed you’re your Journey to Kibale Forest National Park for dinner and overnight stay at Gorilla Forest Camp.

 

Day 7: Chimp Trek and Bigodi Swamp Walk

After breakfast, you will head to the Park headquarters at Kanyachu for chimpanzee tracking briefing by the Park Rangers. After this, you will be accompanied by the Ranger Guide into the forest to search for the Chimpanzee which are Man’s closest friends and Cousins. Kibale Forest is not only home to the chimps but also to other 12 species of primates including the red colobus and L’hoests monkeys, Varvet Monkeys, Red Tailed Monkeys, baboons and so on. You will experience how the chimps feed and interact with each other. Return back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon set out for the Nature walk in Bigodi swamp. Here you will enjoy various bird species and also other primates. Bigodi is considered as a bird watchers paradise because of the very many bird species that can be viewed from the swamp. Return back tom your Lodge for dinner and overnight stay at Gorilla Forest Camp.

 

Day 8: Kampala (Departure)

After breakfast, you will transfer back to Kampala. En route visit different cultural sites with in Fort Portal such as the Toro Kingdom Palace where King Omukama Oyo lives. After this you will also visit the Amabeere ga Nyina Mwiru and then head back to Kampala with lunch en route. Drop off will be at your hotel in Kampala.
